Herndon Garage Door Repair

When We Repair Garage Doors

We’ve accumulated a vast amount of experience and knowledge in our 25+ years of garage door repair, and we like to share our expertise with our customers. There are multiple factors that impact how well garage doors work and the correct way to repair them. Configuring the garage door springs so that they are able to open and close the door properly is a bit of a science.

The type of springs used can significantly change how repairs should be done, and our certified garage door repair technicians will get it right the first time. It’s possible that it’s time to completely replace your garage doors which, as a member of the International Door Association (IDA), we are well equipped to do.

About Garage Door Springs

One of the most important parts of a garage door are the springs. Different types of garage doors require different spring types and sizes to ensure that the door is properly balanced. If the springs are the wrong size, or if they’re not installed correctly, the door could malfunction. At Door Doctor, we take great care in making sure that the correct springs are installed properly on your garage door.

If, for example, the wrong garage door torsion springs are used, or if they’re damaged, your door can have trouble opening and closing.

Two Types of Garage Door Springs

here are two different kinds of garage door. Your door system should be equipped with either: garage door torsion springs, or extension springs. Both of these springs come in various sizes designed to handle specific garage door weights so that your garage door opener will function with ease.

  • Garage door torsion springs are installed directly above the garage door opening to provide smooth operation. These springs offer more control over the opening and closing of the door.
  • Garage Door extension springs run parallel to the track to help to raise and lower the door. The springs are extended when the door is down, and contracted when the door is up, keeping the door firmly in place. Because your overhead garage door is usually in the down position, with the extension springs fully extended, these springs tend to stretch out over time. When this happens, the springs lose their tightly coiled shape and become less effective. For that reason, extension springs should be replaced regularly. We pride ourselves in our ability to repair garage doors efficiently, professionally and cost-effectively.

About Our Springs

When we repair garage doors for our Herndon customers, we use only the highest-quality springs to ensure that it performs the way it was designed. Our springs are made from high-grade steel and coated in a weather-resistant powder that helps to prevent corrosion and reduce friction. This unique design allows our garage door springs to last up to five times longer than springs you might find at other garage door companies. Where normal springs typically last for between 5,000 to 10,000 cycles—one cycle being a full opening and closing of the overhead garage door—our springs are tested to last between 25,000 to 50,000 cycles. So garage door springs installed by Door Doctor means that you won’t need to replace garage doors for a long time.
